Romanian Simona Halep won her second
title in as many weeks with a victory over Belgian Kirsten Flipkens in
Saturday’s final at the Topshelf Open.

Halep beat Flipkens, the No. 4 seed, by a 6-4, 6-2 margin at Autotron
Rosmalen. The match featured a 75-minute rain delay in the first set.

The 21-year-old Halep, who captured her first-ever WTA title in Germany last
week, improved to 2-3 in title matches.

“It’s incredible, because I played really well on grass after a week on clay,”
Halep said. “Today I played well. I was a little bit nervous at the start but
I just tried to fight for every point. She’s playing a very difficult game for
me, slicing a lot, but I played every point and just kept going.

“I’m really happy. I want to enjoy this evening. It’s a special moment for
me.”

The 27-year-old Flipkens appeared in her second career WTA final. Her lone
tour championship came in Quebec City last season.

Halep, who is now 3-0 lifetime against Flipkens, took home $43,000 for the
victory.

Wimbledon starts on Monday. Halep will face Olga Govortsova in the first
round, while Flipkens will take on Yulia Putintseva.
